Welcome to the Great Bridge Middle School Band!
I have designed this web site to provide you with as much information as possible about your journey into our band program. The handbook section will provide you some general information about Band, as well as information regarding our grading policies. Below you can find information on the beginning band instrument you may be considering. Frequently Asked Questions, a parent’s guide to band, information regarding instrument rentals, acceptable brands, accessories, etc. is all here too. You can even rent your instrument on-line and pick it up from one of our local music stores! Before we get too far, lets learn about Band and what becoming a Band member is all about.
Deciding to join the Great Bridge Band is not just a choice about Band, but rather a choice based on what group of people will become your peers.
Although many see Band as a class on learning to play an instrument, it is much more than that. It is the development of a family of friends that often lasts a lifetime. It is also the establishment of some rather profound environmental influences which will determine much of a child’s success in all aspects of education, not just Band.
Through years of extensive research we know that music students represent the top of the academic scale in our schools. We know they are averaging significantly higher scores on SAT tests, which would indicate they are stronger in verbal and math skills than other members of the student body. Current research confirms the study of music is one of the most effective tools to improve learning throughout a child’s academic curriculum. We also know that band students are the ones who enjoy successful high school careers, go on to college, and become leaders in our society. Band truly is a preparation for life!
